With so many requests for me to return to doing live, in person, courses I decided that this would be a great start. The course will be held over six weekends in East Kilbride, Scotland and the dates are provided at the bottom of the page. The course will be limited to eight participants and your place can be reserved by paying the deposit.
The assessment will cover both practical and theory. That is to say your ability to perform and teach these Qigong as well as your knowledge of the Master Points, the Coupled Points and the Vessels.
The Eight Exceptional Vessels are not for beginners and, as they are more advanced Qigong, the competency level of instructors must also be higher. For that reason, the Eight Exceptional Vessels Qigong instructor course requires more from you.
For those of you who do not already know me, I’m Des Lawton and I have over three and a half decades experience in teaching Qigong at San Bao School.
To say that I am more than slightly passionate about Qigong is an understatement. I know, through personal experience and practice, just how amazing Qigong is when practiced properly. All too often it is a range of slow physical exercises that are being passed off as Qigong. Qigong is much, much, more than physical movement and the Qigong in this course are testimony to that.

Qigong is the art of working with your Qi, with our life energy. Qi is tangible. It does not need to be visualized. Within Dao Yin, Neidan, Neigong and Qigong, if you are moving you limbs and not your Qi you are not practicing any of these arts. If you are teaching without the emphasis being on the Qi you are not teaching Qigong.
As an instructor you should be able to:
- Teach students how to lead and guide the Qi.
- Help them to experience the Qi, tangibly.
- Teach them how to use this, tangible, feedback to increase their skill.
- Emphasise that the, physical, movements as a means and not an end.
This Qigong instructor course provides you with the tools and experience to teach these exercises in their truest form. It will deepen your understanding and your awareness of the Qi in the Exceptional Vessels. You will be able to practice and teach all of the exercises. Then, through continued practice, deepen your own awareness and pass these new insights on to your students.

To complete this Qigong Instructor course
There is an assessment on your ability to: –
- Teach proper stance/posture.
- Teach four Qigong exercises that work specifically with the Extraordinary Meridians.
- Assist students in creating a quiet body/mind by using Wuji stance, correct focus and breathing.
- Assist students, through Listening Jing, to discern the different quality of the Qi in the Extraordinary Meridians.
At the end of this Qigong Instructor course you will have a deeper understanding and awareness of the Qi in the Extraordinary Meridians. You will be able to teach all of the exercises and assist students, through continued practice, to deepen their awareness. The structure of this Qigong Instructor course has been built on decades of experience. This structure should be followed when teaching so that your students have all the information they need, when they need it. There should be no putting the cart before the horse.
The structure starts with a firm foundation, with the basics, the proper stances and abdominal breathing before moving on to the four exercises with three lessons covering each.
- The first lesson covers the physical movements, the posture and the breathing.
- The second lesson covers the focus points for guiding the Qi. Then it covers Listening Jing, that is the passive awareness of the Qi.
- The third lesson covers where you should be directing student when they are listening to the Extraordinary Meridians.
Please keep to that structure. Going directly to the exercises, even with “experienced practitioners” can cause misunderstandings. This will inhibit their progress in accessing these Vessels.
The Exceptional Vessels govern three physiological functions: –
- Meridians can be likened to rivers of Qi. Continuing with this analogy, the Vessels can be likened to reservoirs of Qi.
- The Vessels store energy for the body by regulating the flow of Qi into the meridians, providing homeostasis.
- The Vessels drain excessive energy from the meridians, again with the function of bringing about homeostasis.
