Qigong Experiences – What students are saying
I have uploaded some of the Qigong experiences that, in their own words and diagrams, students are having while practicing and as a result of practicing the Four Shen Qigong. It takes time and focus to gain access to the awareness and perception that these Qigong can develop. However, some benefits are quick to attain.
Colour and pulsing in my Qi
Hi Des, Colour has become a dominant manifestation of qi for me since I started practicing the Shen exercises. I practice one of these qigong every day, and sometimes one of the exercises I learnt in the Thursday evening classes, and it always results in misty colours and an undulating movement around me. Green, pink, violet (bright and sometimes pixilated) and a yellow-brown, all punctuated with tiny specks of light. There’s sometimes a pulsing sensation in and around me that corresponds with the undulations, too. My questions are: how do these qigong do this and what significance do these colours have? Also, the colours can be so mesmerising that I sometimes lose focus on the physical aspect of the qigong. What advice can you give me to maintain focus without having to stop listening to everything that’s going on? Aside from the colours, the positive outcome and experiences I’ve had since I started practicing The Four Shen has been amazing (I’ve yet to start practicing Shen 4). A few but not all are: having an increased awareness of self and others, I feel happier, and my wife says I look younger! So, thank you for sharing, Des.
Cheers, J
I will answer your questions on the Q&A page for the Four Shen Qigong.
Des
Dragons?
I meant to send you a heap of drawings a while ago. I thought I’d send these (from 10/1/24), though I never finished them or got to paint the details when I zoomed in on the dragons themselves…….. Imagine me jumping out of my skin a few months ago when you changed the cover photo for the Silk Exercises Zoom classes……
The dragons are interesting! This sort of thing often happened between Joe and I.
Qigong experiences – Burning Face
Wee drawing attached.
I normally feel cold when doing exercises. Sometimes even icy.
But my face was burning towards the end. Like it was in front of an electric fire ( full 3 bars ????)
Also had strange sensation on both sides of my tongue at the front. As though I had dipped my tongue in pepper ( something I have never done, hahah)
Thank you.
White pepper, or black pepper? I often pick up Metal Qi as a taste (and sensation) of white pepper.
Qigong experiences – The Exceptional Vessels (Extraordinary Meridians)
Hi Des
Further to what I mentioned about online class, please see drawing attached.
Thank you.

Qigong experiences – Spleen meridian
Like sound waves in a tubular configuration…They extend outwards so not contained within the body, everything becomes that spinning waveform when it is focused on.
Qigong experiences – Colours, lots of!
Just a quick one about the colours from last night online. Another great class.
I don’t know if was because my living room is dull but I wasn’t seeing a bright silver, I was getting more of a dark blue aluminium type colour. Then later in earth exercises, towards the end, it was a totally different story.
It was like Northern lights with colours streaking upwards on the left hand side of my ‘vision’ if you know what I mean.
Very pretty. M
Qigong experiences – The Energy Gates (Kua) in the Fingers
Qigong experiences – Rake Feet!
Hi Des
Great class. It was all going on. Change of colours, thickness, temperature you name it. At the end I also had the sensation of it going from double prongs into ground and then almost like a rake, with multiple prongs going int the ground.
See you next week. Cheers, M
Energy flows experienced after the Silk Exercises
Qigong experiences – ET fingers
Hi Des,
Thank you for today’s class. I now understand why I experienced having ET fingers when I focused my attention on them. I will continue working on this awareness.
During today’s class I also realised that I was probably overshooting on my back leg instead of sinking into it as soon as I find Kidney 1. Somehow sinking into the front leg is less of an issue. I did notice that the exercise was less strenuous once I sank properly into Kidney 1.
Best wishes, K M
Qigong experiences – Micro/macrocosmic Sketches
Scribbles from Silk Exercises
Morning Des,
If I’ve caught you before you set off on adventures has a fab time in the crispness and brightness.
I thought I’d send over some of my scribbles from Wednesday.
I also had a great Shibashi class that afternoon, due to all the powerful sensations firing off when we were doing ‘Turning to Gaze at the moon’.
On the back of that I used it to ground again after last night’s session! It took 15 mins of that, Eagle Spreads it’s wings, Fire from 5 yin and pressing palms ….phew…before I could go back into the house.
Qigong experiences -Fire and Ice
Hi Des
Just a wee quick one on last weeks online class. Good grief it was a game of two extremes. While I was concentrating on trying to find and keep the connections, I was getting extreme differences in temperature. My face felt on fire, it was red hot and my third eye felt like a wee volcano. But when I was lowering my arms back down, it was artic blasts all along my arms on both sides. They were so marked I was actually shivering.
Not been as marked this week but let’s see what tomorrow brings. Hahaha.
Cheers, M
Qigong experiences – Blue Skies
Was doing wee bit last night, then later when I sat down was looking slightly up and there was large white light moving very rapidly against the black.
I asked it to come a bit closer and suddenly, really suddenly the black parted to show me a bright bright blue sky. It was so vivid, lifelike and sudden that if I hadn’t been sitting down I would have fallen over…………
Cheers,
M
Qigong experiences – Working with Colour
Really enjoyed working with colours last week.
Be happy to work on that and auras in some more depth.
During the online classes I normally see dark colours, like dark red and green swirled together but last week I got some flashes of really bright colours, quite metallic in nature.
First off I got vivid blue and yellow and then purples and blues like anodised titanium.
Then when looking down through my hands it was like the colours of a bubble on water, moving like oil on water.
But weirdly when I got to class I didn’t really see any colour, instead it was like I had put my hands palm down in ink or paint and it was coming up the sides of my fingers like a very dark and high tidemark.
Was very distinct.
I know Im saying this in very simplistic way but I really enjoy opening the third eye/washing the face. Such a happy feeling as the light seems to shine in and out at the same time.
Thank you.
Cheers

Qigong experiences – Shen Qigong
Hi Des,
Just a quick one to say that I did see two colours at once last week.
Just before you said that I had just had a firm word with myself, as I realised I was half ‘expecting’ to see the style of image I sometimes do ie the black figures against colour background.
I let that go and then I saw a very distinct oak leaf shape that was both maroon and dark green at same time.
Couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on until you said.
Later that night in bed I tried again and this time it was almost like watching a colour saturated film, where men in smart suits and shiny shoes were marching around but I was down at ground level and could only see them from the knees down.
Catch you later.
Cheers M
Qigong experiences – Third Eye pain
Hi Des,
I am J.F, C.F’s wife. I do Qigong with him.
On the Shen exercise, when have Qi go up the thrusting vessel to the back of the head, I feel a pressure. As the pressure goes through the head to the third eye, I get a sharp pain at the location of the third eye. Taking the hands outward to expand the pressure seems to help decrease the pain. Am I doing something wrong? No one else has any pain.
I do see colors when I close my eyes. Each time I have done these exercises, I have seen different colors. I also see different colors with my eyes closed during the exercise than I see after the exercise is done.
Hello J,
This is a sign that the eye is opening. The sharpness of the pain is often correlated with the amount of focus you have on the Third Eye and your description of the pain decreasing as you take the hands outward is also indicative of this. It sounds as though you are narrowing the focus as you move from Yamen through to the Third Eye.
When practicing, have that “opening up” starting (gradually) at Yamen so that there is less focus at the Third Eye. This should reduce the “pressure” and allow it to open further.
Colours, patterns, tastes, smells, etc are enhanced during these Qigong. With practice, this enhanced awareness/perception can be accessed without the need to go through the exercises.
I hope that this is of help and I will add your question to those on the San Bao website.
Kind regards,
Des
Somantic Primer Podcast featuring Des
Hi Des,
I released your interview today. I apologize it took so long, I did so many interviews and I got behind. I advertised your school and upcoming courses for you as well. It turned out really well and I look forward to doing it again. Here is the link for the episode. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/somatic-primer-podcast/id1607750857?i=1000582055326
All the best,
B N
Last week –
Best fun was when working with the belt again. When I was bringing my hands back to the front, after they reached my side they shot to the front. Almost like magnets being repelled. But it was at speed , almost like they were on rails.
It was so fast I did it a few times just to check. Most obvious sensation I have had to date.
Earlier when thinking how energy felt around my head it went from a sort of large weather balloon to a more refined leaf shape or the inside of the marble.
Very distinctly pointed at the top tough which was strange. Never felt a point up there. Haha.
As for heat on my face. At first face was just normal warm but then later it was the kind of heat you used to get if you were sitting in front of an electric fire with 3 bars on ( you couldn’t afford 3 bars in real life now ?)
Hi Des,
What a great session today. I really felt comfortable in bow stance for the first time and during Wings of a Dove I felt the side of my nose tickling but it also felt like there was so much energy entering my body that I could feel my heartbeat in my ears during the inhale …if that makes sense.
The walking exercise/visualisation at the end was beautiful. I could feel a large soft dough ring sitting on my head and I continued for 5 minutes after class because if felt so good.
Thank you
B H
Great class last week.
As I mentioned, when working the belt, felt as though I had a monster truck style tyre round my middle other than the smooth fat suit I normally feel.
Also felt as though I was being pushed over onto one side quite strongly.
It was rocky in middle as some young guys outside were playing really LOUD music in their car and it kept distracting me but managed to get back in the zone.
Another odd one this week, after some practice this week, it feels like my peripheral vision is sharper. Markedly so.
I seem to be catching much more out of the corner of my eyes and more vivid too.
Most peculiar but enjoyable.
Right back to work.
Catch you later.
Cheers

Hi Des
I found this weeks lesson very interesting. I’m keen to learn how Qigong can help with health issues.
At the end when you asked us to stand and feel the energy in our hands, my energy was swirling round anti clockwise in both hands. I could feel it moving over the heels of my hands and tips of my fingers and was the size of a small football.
Also, during the lesson I was aware of slight pressure on my forehead/third eye. My Kidney 1 was warm after the water exercises and I could feel my crown at the end of the lesson.
See you on Tuesday.
Kind regards
B
Hi Des
Tonight’s impression – after practising, I felt like those overlapping balloons you’ve mentioned, very stable. I didn’t get a sense of being ‘overinflated’ like I sometimes do. It made me feel/realise that at times I feel like the ‘balloon man’ that you sometimes see on industrial estates – air being blown into them from the bottom, and the body and arms flailing about wildly- if I have a shock/shot of adrenalin and my heart starts to do its skippety thump – that is exactly how I feel, flailing about uncontrollably. The 8EV exercise made me feel very stable and calm, exactly the opposite.
Incidentally, thanks for the explanation on the linking vessels, very helpful. L.
That “air sock man” feeling is often experienced when Chong Mai is really active. I have felt this many times myself and we all had a laugh when Marion demonstrated (during a class) it when she was having that rush of Qi……………… She does a very good impression of wind sock man!
I will work my way through the rest of the Vessels and give an insight to their functions. Then, if we are up for it, an insight into their interactions (From personal experience as most of the information recorded is more academic, stiff and bracketed. The Qi is none of these.)

Hello Des
Here are some things I noticed this week practising the orbits qigong you gave us last week.
- When circulating yin and yang with palms facing, the difference between yin and yang appeared to grow less, accompanied by increased calm.
- When flicking the chi between facing palms, it bounced between the feet too.
- Single word (microcosmic intention) – made me chuckle as the combined micro and macro seemed to pop into life.
- The single word intention did seem to have less dramatic effect over the week. Possibly as a result of expectation.
- Awareness inside and outside the body increased in contrast and distinctiveness of character.
- At another time awareness of the combined became more active and body became calmer.
- Once my feet disappeared, but connection to the ground consolidated.
Hope this makes sense. Even more with this I am acutely aware of the limitation of language.
Thanks Des, P.
Best wishes
Hello Des,
Some Shen questions and observations:
When we do the Shen exercises I get a pain in the back as the chi builds. It is most often in the class (when you remind us to focus!).
It can get pretty painful. It’s not the same as legs getting tired. My feeling is that I should stop when it gets so intense. Would you advise to stop or carry on?
1. My practise while doing qigong is to forget about the breathing. In this case the chi has its own breath and rhythm and it leads to calmness and I am more able to connect mind with qi.
2. If I were to focus on the breathing, it tends to incrrease my anxiety and tension around neck, chest and diaphragm. This is because of illness which causes my breathing to be about twice the normal rate.
Is it beneficial, in this case, to practice using the breath, or better to forget about it.
Update on qigong
3. I was unwell around Christmas and January, so it was difficult to stand for long. I concentrated on very simple exercises and a lot on wuji. This was really interesting as it brought attention to some problems in structure.
Sometimes when looking at wuji, it I paid attention to the space around me, a spot around me would catch my attention and as I looked and listened it would expand, sometimes into quite a big area, along with a strong sense of wellbeing and connection.
Some experiences on shen and orbits
4. When doing microcosmic orbit, as it reaches the root chakra, it continues down to the feet and slightly under and circulates from feet to bahui.
Sometimes it’s like skipping in the orbit like sitting at the centre of a wheel. Often there is stuff shooting out from tantien and body and back sideways.
5. Doing no 4 Shen exercise: when opening the chest and solar plexus there seems to be a corresponding opening in the back. Not too much at tantien, neck and third eye.
6. In general I think the practice of letting go of the mind is proving to be really interesting. The Yi is becoming less intense and insistent. More like an invitation than a command.
If the orbit, say, is set up, then once the mind is allowed to step aside, it seems like it is still there and capable of direction and focus, but without the insistence or analytic explanation.
Reply from Des:
Hello P,
I will work through these one at a time.
- Where exactly are you getting the pain in your back. It may well be a blockage and, if that’s the case, we can do something about clearing it. Knowing exactly where it is located will help me to understand what is going on.
- You are correct to ignore the breathing (see my post on Pro-Holistic Anchoring the Breath). Using the breath as a tool is fine as long as it does not interfere with the listening.
- Your expanded awareness “a spot around me would catch my attention and as I looked and listened it would expand, sometimes into quite a big area, along with a strong sense of wellbeing and connection.” Is exactly what should be happening. Again, back to anchoring the breath, the breathing has to be let go.
- The awareness of the Orbit below the feet is what I was mentioning in one of the recent classes. All too often people have a preconceived notion that the orbit is “tight” and almost adheres to the skin. The Shen Exercises are a huge asset in this regard as they take your awareness well beyond the physical. The “skipping” is because you are listening to the conveyed, that “something” in the Qi. If you switch to listening to the conveyor there is an experience of being immersed in the overall flow……….. Quite something.
- Yes, the rear aspect of each of the chakras will respond as you open the front. This is often more noticeable with Heart and with the Third Eye (Yamen through to the Third Eye is much more noticeable in the first three of the Shen Qigong).
- The Yi is always a tad reticent to let go to begin with. That change from “intense and insistent” to “more like an invitation than a command” is indicative of the Shen being in charge. You have also indicated that with this “without the insistence or analytic explanation”. The Shen has no need for either.
Kind regards, Des
Qigong experiences – Chi Paws!
Very quickly after we start I am aware that I have ‘chi paws’. It feels like my hands are really full and heavy. If I looked down to see that I had hands like Mickey Mouse I would not be in the least surprised.
I’m also aware that when I close my eyes the images I see are like paper shadow puppets. Usually waterfalls, people and trees. Last week they were much bigger than usual. The colour too was different. Normally I see a sort of lilac light but last week for the first time it was a deep ruby red that was almost black.
I try to move towards them but they normally just slide out of view. M.
Hi M.
Your description of shadow puppets is very familiar…………….. Like my grey on black images.
Yes, sometimes the images/shapes move away as you approach. I came to the conclusion that it was my Yi that was pushing them away (at least it was keeping me apart from them). I occasionally have to stop and “invite” them to come to me. The thought process is different and the Yi seems happier with that. It is worth trying next time. Des
Qigong experiences -My most recent ones
Just wanted to send you a quick email after our Tuesday morning exceptional vessels lesson. I think I’m now much better at opening the different Master points on the feet and ankles and I’m really enjoying the feeling of me guiding the qi flow, although I can’t quite believe I’m doing it!
Almost everyday now I experience a strong microcosmic flow which starts spontaneously when I’m standing in a relaxed way. I must admit the flow sensation is powerful and almost scares me a bit.
I’m enjoying my Qigong very much and I know it’s helped my health and outlook on life a lot. Keep up the great work!
Best wishes R.
Qigong experiences – Always amazed
Hi Des
lots of qi tonight. when doing the second exercise before raising the heavens and working with small intestine and heart I felt a really intense pressure/pulsing in both lower hands in pinky, then when focus moved to face I felt a pressure in the centre of both cheeks, pushing out when turning right, pushing in when turning left. I was able to turn both sensations on and off with external rotations of hands. My pinkies still feel full even now.
Also when parting the clouds I felt a band of heat about 3 inches wide down the centre of my face downwards which intensified the longer we did it. This dispersed within 2 repetitions of the final one to calm things down.
This stuff never ceases to amaze me!
thanks
L
Qigong experiences – The Orbits
Impression of the Dan tien – today more like a ball of sorbet – not cold, but that sort of texture (a little rough and bumpy) and solid, and a very pale green. Static.
Microcosmic orbit with hands in front of body – direction up on the inside/palms and down on the outside of the hands, mirroring the orbit, but not sure if that was the yi making it happen, or shen sensing it…More of this for future classes please, and the shen exercises. L.
Qigong experiences – Microcosmic Orbit
Here are some experiences of the micro macro cosmic orbit.
There are less gaps in the orbit but it doesn’t come easily. Doing the microcosmic orbit I sometimes get an ache in the back below the shoulder blades on either side. In the microcosmic orbit, when reaching the dan tian, it rolls and turns and sometimes pops out. I get a flow around and through the body in all diffeerent directions. The energies of each flow are slightly different, and some are not as clear as others. Once, overlooking some vibrating bushes in the garden, they seemed to come inside, and the dan tian sort of mirrored the vibrating bushes, like both outside and inside had turned inside out. P.
Qigong experiences – Listening Jing
Feedback from Thursday training – I liked the image of ‘layers’ of the dan tien/energy field – rather like an onion? Albeit with the layers going in different directions.
I found it hard to feel movement of the dan tien, though I did get a soft pulsing eventually (not in time with the heart or breath). An image that came to me – if you’ve watched the Fifth Element, a sphere, black but with red veins, like lava waiting to burst out – or was it cooling?
Also a cool blue/white light – larger/the aura? While feeling for the ‘size’ of the dan tien, it felt as if it extended out to the arms when ‘holding the belly’ out – hollow, deep, like a bottomless pit (in a positive way). Body continues to feel transparent at times, hard to let go of it, I’m ‘aware’ I have arms, or am I just used to them being there and ‘feel’ what is expected? L.
Qigong experiences – Fabulous class tonight.
During the last bit of the session my chi was noisy, clattering around my body, heart beating fast until I turned into a large white ball on legs. (Not sure quite what that means)
What fun! L.
Please explain to me the level of “five eyes and six Shen Tong”
As I said in my initial answer, I am unfamiliar with the term “Five eyes, six Shen Tong” and therefore cannot give a definitive answer regarding its meaning. However I do have experience of the “five eyes” and the “Shen tong” and will share these in the hope that you can find your answer.
The Five Eyes
- The five eyes are reference to the Yi and the Shen (the cognitive, reasoning brain and the consciousness) and is a guide, an example, of how they differ.
- The first four eyes are connected to the Yi. Two are looking forward, to the future, and two are looking backward, to the past. Yes, physically we only have two eyes but this is representative of how the Yi views existence……….. in a linear fashion.
- The fifth eye is our inner eye and is connected to the Shen. The Shen is not touched by, governed by, time. It “sees” without constraint. This “seeing” is the same as the “listening” that we do in Qigong. The simplest (although crude) way that I can describe it is that the Shen is a single point in existence that “sees”, experiences everything that surrounds it. When practicing Qigong we use Wuji (the nothingness that helps us realise that single point in existence) and then “listen”. “Seeing” and “listening” are only words and they mean the same thing when working with Qi………….. Go beyond their physical uses.
The Shen tong are the levels, spaces, dimensions, that you can attain through the practice of Shen Qigong. The term that I am most familiar with is “the great halls” (of the Shen).
I have no idea why this term, “Five eyes, six Shen Tong”, has limited the number to six but, after meditating on it, I suspect that the Master used the term as a reminder to his students that they must learn to separate the Yi from the Shen, to be able to access the Shen without the interference of the Yi in order to access these higher levels of existence.
Shared Qigong experiences
I was very interested last Thursday evening when you mentioned an experience of seeing golden globes and realised you were one of them.
I have never heard anyone talk about such a thing before, but I experienced a similar thing one day while walking through the town.
It was a feeling of overwhelming love, and there were spheres of something which had personalities which I took to be other people. Not golden, and I didn’t think of myself as one of them, more as an observer.
I am learning so much from your teaching. I like the way you discuss your own experiences. It helps to see the things that matter, and not overlook them or consider them unimportant.
Thanks
Here are a few recent experiences I found interesting.
When doing the exercise like parting wild horses mane it felt as if both hands touched exactly the same spot.
When doing the condensing exercise (awareness of skin, then just inside, then bone, and then outside the body, I felt a lot going on just under the skin.
Best wishes
P.J.
Qigong experiences – Poor Sleep – Are my Qigong experiences normal?
I am a bit unsure how to continue the practice with the Shen. I am curious to explore but I notice that my night sleep is really suffering as body and mind are very active. I cannot settle the Qi properly after practicing in the evenings it seems. I did find my hands being moved by Qi (as in the last section yesterday) quite effortless which feels amazing but my mind starts intervening afterwards and I get sort of anxious for whatever reason.
So I wonder what to do with it. I have an inquisitive mind pattern which I do value in other fields but it gets exhausting in this case. I had vivid “daydreamings” and inner journey times in my life but it was a rollercoaster and confusing in the “real world” being with it so I properly “switched buttons again”.
Reply from Des: Yes, practicing these Qigong in the evening can lead to poor sleep because you are still “buzzing” with the Shen active. That is why I have taught you some of the exercises that can reduce and eliminate this activity so that you can get a restful night.
For some practitioners it only takes a few repetitions, for others it can take ten minutes of (focused) repetition. At the end of the class we are time limited as to how long we spend on this but there is nothing to stop you continuing with any of these once the class is over.
The “intervening” is the Yi trying to take back control. It does not like it when it is not fully in control. It tries to find reason in everything and is determined not to cede to the Shen where “reason” is meaningless. We all experience this process and, like all other things in life, some get through it quicker than others.
The “rollercoaster” is normal too. The Yi works with language and with linear time. The Shen is not bound by either so these experiences (They can seem like distorted memories but are more often than not a revisit to what actually occurred rather than the selective memory of the Yi) and they are often at extreme speed. Extreme for the Yi but natural for the Shen. When things are moving at this speed, when questions are being answered before you can finish formulating the sentence, just ask your Shen to slow down. It is as simple as that. Ask it to slow down because your Yi (left brain) cannot keep up.
Take time, after the Shen Qigong class, to gently close things down. Use Pressing Palms in Calmness, or the structured scanning from the Crown down through each of the Chakras and let each close as you do so.
Qigong experiences – Qualities of Qi – Arm Yin & Yang
“Thank you for that and enjoyed last night again.
Just a quick one to say I really noticed the different temperatures on my arms.
On the outside of my arms it was like someone had rubbed Vicks on them, it was that strange menthol super coolness that you get when the air hits your skin.
It’s like you say some of the things are so odd, your brain tries to tell you they are not happening – later on it felt like I was moving my hands through golden syrup.
Which reminds me, think I will have some on a pancake today ( golden syrup not the Vicks) Haha. Have a good holiday weekend and happy trails.”
The first Shen Qigong – The rooting and connecting experienced.
The first Shen Qigong – The expansion experienced.
“Think being screwed into the ground stops the lift off! Very fizzy feet for a while afterwards. I’ve been blaming the 10 fundamentals for opening up more smell and sound (extra access via right ear) but this one would probably blow those out the water….”
From the initial exposure to Shen exercise 1
- “I found the Shen exercise we did today very interesting and felt quite mentally settled after it. I feel this might be a very good exercise to do before my morning meditation – I usually do some form of qiqong, but this one seems particularly appropriate. Will try it out and see.”
- “I enjoyed learning the shen qigong today. It has left me feeling calm and centered, like I would after meditation.”
Comparing exercises 1 & 2
- “Hi Des, Here’s my feedback on the exercise we did: On the first one (with hands facing inward), I felt a great expansion within my body, so I felt like my whole body was filled and energised on the inside and my 3rd eye had expanded outward. On the other one (with hands facing out) I felt a great expansion outside my body. So I felt incredibly expanded so that I almost didn’t know where my body began or ended. Very hard to explain!”
Yes, very hard to put into words that have, up till now, only been used to describe the physical. The outward expansion can often lead to your awareness being a single point that is both infinitely small and infinitely big at the same time. A real paradox of an experience when the body “disappears” as the barriers between physical and energetic are removed.
Des
The first Shen Qigong – The awareness and experience deepens.
The second Shen Qigong – The initial awareness from this exercise.
Qigong experiences -Three from the one session
Couple of things I noticed last night
- When we were doing the looking down between our fingers in the gap, I could almost see an oily film like the surface of a bubble. Not as coloured as that but moving on the surface in the same way.
- In the exercise before that, when I was raising my hands to the back of my head it was as if my head was taking up much more room at the front. Kind of like a big balloon or watermelon. My head itself didn’t feel bigger if that makes sense it just felt like it occupied more space.
- Also hard again to fall asleep. So I tried to concentrate on looking at inside of my eyelids. Saw new colour I’ve not really seen before, a swirling dark brown and red. Almost like paint being stirred.
- That “oily bubble” can appear as “light reflecting off of a cellophane film”, “vague colours swirling”, “oil on water”, etc. It’s great that you picked it up.
- What you were experiencing there was the expanse of the Qi (your awareness of the Qi outwith the physical body). This is partly what I meant when I said that both of the exercises lead to the same place………….. That enlarged space can be interpreted as being inside or outside but it is both.
- Great that you saw colours but remind me of the sleeping difficulty next week so that I can give you all a grounding exercise. The Shen Qigong can be like drinking a lot of strong coffee (with the exception of the twitchiness) before going to bed.

Hi Des. Thank you very much for this morning class. It is really pleasant to get back to a guided Qi Gong session. I do find your guidance both insideful and very conducive to proper Qigong. It does help to recentre and deepen my personal practice. So 5 stars rating from me. Laurence
Thanks Laurence!
Good morning Des.
Doing the Shibashi Tuesday class on demand for next few weeks. I have very much enjoyed this week’s class. A very cleansing and peaceful session. I find the in depth revisiting of the exercises most beneficial. And definitely like the flexibility the on demand classes give. Being able to change from one block of 4 to the other is perfect.
I am gradually working my way through the Shibashi online course and am enjoying it though feel a novice…. I will put on any amazing insights I come up with all in good time!
